Upon completion of this activity, the learner should be able to:

  • Review the pathophysiology and risk factors for the development of varicose veins
  • Outline the available treatment options for varicose veins
  • Compare the risks, benefits, and side effects of available sclerotherapy agents for small varicose veins, reticular veins, and telangiectasias
  • Describe the presentation and diagnosis of varicose veins
  • Discuss treatments, along with clinical safety and efficacy data, available for the management of varicose veins
  • Report the indications for correction of varicose veins.
  • Discuss the usage of ultrasound to detect and treat venous disease.
  • Identify any potential security concerns associated with the venous surgery performed in a clinic.
  • Integrate the use of endovenous (thermal, chemical surgical) methods for closing the saphenous vein, which is refluxing.
  • Choose the most appropriate treatment to eliminate secondary venous clusters using power Phlebectomy, stab Phlebectomy and Foam Sclerotherapy.
  • Describe the steps to manage difficult perforating veins, incompetent veins, and vein ulcers in the office.
  • Discuss the best way to manage an obstruction in the outflow of the iliac vein.
